Mastering the Dead Space in Your Closet!
When your closet interactions start to involve a little too much shoving, squeezing and – let’s face it – swearing, it might be time to take a deep breath and change up the game. If you have a smaller-than-preferred closet in your life that is causing you some trouble, try some of these tips to make the most of the dead space in your closet.
1. Off with the Off-Season
When the dead of the winter hits, you’re only daydreaming if you think that sundress will make an appearance anytime soon. Eliminate the number of clothing items in your closet by packing up your off-season items out of the way in a trunk on the floor.
2. Hang the Bulky Items High
Do you have space-stealing items like suitcases sitting on the closet floor? Free up that space by hanging them on hooks high up on the wall.
3. Feet on the Floor
After removing those bulkier items from the floor, utilize that newly created floor space to store shoes. Try using tiered shoe racks so you can fit as many shoes as possible.
4. Double Up
Double your closet space by hanging a second rack under the top one. This simple fix will make the best use of the dead air in your closet.
5. Maximize the Back of the Door
Have a bunch of smaller items that are at risk of getting lost? Organize them by hanging a multi-compartment hanging on the back of the door.
6. Tie Up the Ties
On a similar note, if you have an extensive tie collection, store them slimly by hanging them on hanger with hooks. The tiered format of the hanger creates less bulk in your closet.
7. Go Up and Down
Maximize vertical space with stackable storage bins that go from the top of your closet to the bottom. Collect the smaller items that need to be stores, or accessories like scarves and shoes, and find a bin that’s just the right size!
