If you are ready to take your closets to the next level, continue reading to learn about arranging your wardrobe in a way that works for you.

Do a Spring Clean

Starting fresh with a clean and empty space is vital. At the same time, you can make a donation pile and a keep pile. A good rule of thumb is if you haven't worn a pair of jeans or pumps, for example, in the past 6-8 months, it's time to let them go.
Don't forget to wipe down the shelves and other surface areas to prevent your clothes from acquiring any dirt or dust.

Store Clothes by Season and Category

Storing your clothes by season can free up much-needed space in your closets for more fun summery outfits or those much-needed puffy coats in winter.

Be sure to sort your clothes into categories as well. For example, if you have an abundance of work suits that you wear on a daily basis, store them in the same place.  It is also important to hang up these pieces to avoid a wrinkling disaster!

Another secret for maintaining an organized space is to have designated shelves for different seasons. You can even create unique custom labels for each shelf based on specific categories.

The Spruce recommends utilizing the front of your closet for articles of clothing that "you wear most often." For example, if you work out each morning, it may be ideal for you to have your workout sets at eye level so you can start the day on an organized note.

Embrace Wooden Hangers

There is no bigger eyesore than a hodgepodge of mismatched hangers. Reduce the visual clutter with coordinated hangers to help maximize space and prevent your clothes from slipping and becoming wrinkled or dirty.

As metal hangers bend over time, they often lose their shape and form. Wooden hangers are great because they keep the shape of your clothes without stretching them.

Folding Vs. Rolling

Folding your clothes is a great way to maximize space. Better Homes & Gardens recommends pairing items into smaller stacks or sections so every article has a home.

Instead of folding all of your cotton shirts, leggings, and pajamas, try rolling them. This will save you an abundance of space and make things more accessible. You can even categorize these sections however you wish.

Color-Code Your Wardrobe

Color coding your wardrobe might be painstakingly tedious at first. However, it will benefit your sanity in the long run when you are looking for specific items. Organizing by color is especially useful if you are a visual person who likes to pick out outfits ahead of time.

One of the easiest ways to organize your clothes by color is going from dark to light. For example, put all of your black clothes to the left of your closet and slowly move on to grey, white, red, etc... This will provide contrast between your clothes as well.

Hang Accessories

Instead of bundling up all of your accessories in the bottom of a drawer for them to get tangled and forgotten about, put them on display. You can do this by using a fashionable jewelry mannequin or utilizing the extra hangers in your closet.

Another great alternative to hanging your jewelry is using a wall-mounted jewelry pegboard. These are great because you can hang a variety of necklaces, rings, and bracelets on them.

What About Shoes?

Shoes are often forgotten about when it comes to organizing your closet. Whether you have three pairs of shoes or 30 pairs, it is essential to have a storage method that works for your lifestyle.

Before jumping in, think about what pairs you wear most often versus once every few months. Also, consider seasonal footwear. Maybe it would help your system by labeling your shoe bins by season.  Shoe racks are another great solution.

Final Thoughts

A functional and well-organized closet will help reduce clutter in your home, and make room for new clothes! Color coding and keeping your favorite belongings at eye level is also vital to creating an organized atmosphere. When organizing your clothes, be sure to roll the items that you keep in drawers to maximize space. You can even sort your clothes into different sections by season.
